Summer Work Plans

Summer Work Plans

Dear Friends of the Rock of Ages Lighthouse,

We are excited to announce that work this summer will center around restoring the 4th floor keeper’s quarters.  This room will receive 4 beautiful reproduction windows, new maple floor, wood trim, and a fresh coat of paint.  The stair wells above and below the room will also be painted. This is a very important step.  Once this room is restored volunteers will have a safe place to overnight at the lighthouse, speeding up the restoration process and providing a unique and exciting experience for volunteers.

This summer volunteer crews will stay on Barnum Island in the Frances Andrews Cabin, an historic family cabin built in the 1920’s.  The cabin has no running water or electricity, but it is just a few steps away from a beautiful view of Lake Superior and a perfect, protected swimming bay. We are excited to adopt this space as a home for volunteers during summer work trips and look forward to caring for the cabin and preserving its own unique history.
